Today, we\u2019re going to learn how to free up reserved bandwidth in Windows.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did you know that Windows automatically reserves a portion of your internet bandwidth for system tasks like updates and error reporting? While this helps keep your system running smoothly, it can also slow down your browsing speed. In this guide, I\u2019ll show you how to disable or reduce the reserved bandwidth percentage so you can enjoy a faster internet experience. Let\u2019s dive in!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Steps &#8211; <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the <strong>Start<\/strong> menu and click on <strong>Run<\/strong>. Alternatively, press <strong>Windows + R<\/strong> (press both the <strong>Windows<\/strong> key and <strong>R<\/strong> key simultaneously). <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>Run<\/strong> box, type <strong>gpedit.msc<\/strong> and press <strong>Enter<\/strong> to open the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/previous-versions\/windows\/it-pro\/windows-server-2012-r2-and-2012\/dn265982(v=ws.11)\">Group Policy Editor<\/a><\/strong>. In the left pane, navigate to:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Computer Configuration<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>Administrative Templates<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>Network<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>QoS Packet Scheduler<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the right pane, find <strong>Limit reservable bandwidth<\/strong>, right-click on it, and select <strong>Edit<\/strong> from the dropdown menu.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"992\" height=\"539\" src=\"https:\/\/rohitlal.in\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/reduce_windows_bandwidth_lgpe_window_1.jpg\" alt=\"Snipped showing the Local Group Policy Editor configurations to free up reserved bandwidth\" class=\"wp-image-98\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rohitlal.in\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/reduce_windows_bandwidth_lgpe_window_1.jpg 992w, https:\/\/rohitlal.in\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/reduce_windows_bandwidth_lgpe_window_1-300x163.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rohitlal.in\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/reduce_windows_bandwidth_lgpe_window_1-768x417.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 992px) 100vw, 992px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>By default, the state will show as <strong>&#8220;Not Configured,&#8221;<\/strong> but Windows still reserves <strong>20%<\/strong> of your bandwidth. The trick is to set it to <strong>0%<\/strong>. To do this, select <strong>Enabled<\/strong>, then change the <strong>Bandwidth Limit (%)<\/strong> from <strong>20<\/strong> to <strong>0<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Apply<\/strong>, then hit <strong>OK<\/strong> to save the changes.
